Achieve Your 2021 Fitness Goals with These 3 Tips

It’s estimated that around 43% of people who set fitness goals as a new year resolution will give up on them before they reach the end of January.

But why?

After the Christmas period is over, mornings and evenings are still dark and cold it can be difficult to find the motivation to start your fitness journey. But putting on your trainers, booking into that morning class and logging onto Zoom is the first step and usually the hardest part. Below are our top tips on how you can continue to keep motivated so you can reach your 2021 goals;

1.  Set performance goals over physical body goals

You might have goals such as ‘get fit for summer’ or ‘get abs’ which is fine but as well of these external goals try to think of internal goals that will affect how you feel on the inside. By setting goals like ‘to feel stronger’ or to ‘comfortably squat with an extra 1kg weight’ you’ll see and feel more progress helping to motivate you more.

2. Plan!

If there is a Pilates class on Wednesday at 5:30pm add it into your calendar in your phone or write in your diary or add it to your to-do list. By scheduling in time for exercise you’ll not forget and in time it will naturally fit into your daily routine.

3. Buddy up

If there’s anything that can make something difficult into something easier. It’s a friend! Having someone by your side during training or a class whether it’s a friend or a qualified PT can motivate you and make your fitness journey a whole lot more fun.

If you know someone who’s a fitness fanatic or someone who needs that little bit of a push then TIFC Christmas voucher might just be perfect for them.

Achieve Your 2021 Fitness Goals with These 3 Tips

Importance of Flexibility

As we get older flexibility of our muscles decreases making it more difficult to complete everyday tasks due to the shortening of the muscles. Flexibility is a key component when performing any physical exercise or sport, as it increases blood flow to the muscles which helps posture, mobility and reduces the risk of injury. Flexibility is something that should be consistently worked on through both dynamic and static stretching.

Dynamic Stretching

This sort of stretching involves full body movements that can include walking lunges and spinal rotations. This stretching is usually used during a warm up in classes such as BodyPump, H.I.I.T and Fat Burner as it prepares the body for a more intense workout by working the muscles harder.

Static Stretching

A static stretch is when a single position is held for around 50 seconds, this allows your muscles to stretch and loosen up which will increase your range of motion and flexibility. Classes such as Yoga and Pilates use static stretching to increase blood flow to muscles which not only help increase flexibility but also help to decrease stress. It’s never too late to increase your flexibility no matter your age, ability or fitness level. Contact Steve on 07581 06 88 36 or [email protected] to find the perfect class for you!

Importance of Flexibility

The Benefits of Ballet

After reading the amazing article about the 75 widower who found solace in ballet, we’ve been inspired to spread the word on the physical and mental benefits of ballet. Ballet is a style of dance that originated during the Italian Renaissance in the fifteenth century. Ballet is a highly disciplined form of dance and has defined the foundational techniques in many other dance genres.

As flexibility decreases with age ballet is a great way to improve joint mobility that will help improve flexibility through stretching. Posture is a key element when performing ballet, with practice ballet can strengthen muscles in the core and back which will result in improved posture. Ballet will also define, tone and elongate your body. Endorphins are released during and after ballet, these help give you the feel good factor after exercise and can reduce stress.

Here at TIFC we offer Ballet classes for all abilities and Barre Fitness that combines basic ballet and Pilates. With famous lyrical music you’ll recognise, you’ll get lost in the world of dance!
